“Well, as you know, you've asked the president this question before, and we certainly love the people of Kurdistan,” JD Vance said. “Any time that drone attacks or missile attacks are hitting anybody, but particularly civilian populations, that's not something we like to see at all and it's one of the things that sometimes happens.”

“Unfortunately these ceasefires, they're not always perfect. We've seen that in Gaza. We've seen that certainly in Iran and Syria. of its neighbors, but we have seen a significant reduction in violence over the last few weeks of the ceasefire. And look, fundamentally, the president's been quite clear this is going to go again in one of two directions. We're going to restart the war, which is not the preference of the President of the United States. We'll restart the operation, or we're going to strike a deal.”

Although a ceasefire was declared in the region, the Kurdistan Region has faced multiple attacks by drone attacks across the Kurdistan Region, including on April 18.

Also in February, JD Vance underlined the strong relationship between the Kurds and the United States.

“The President loves the Kurds. I know that the entire administration [has] had great contacts and great friendships with the Kurdish people in various countries all over the world.”

Furthermore, today during a briefing by U.S. military leaders by the House Armed Services Committee on U.S. military readiness, Rep. Mike Turner asked Daniel Zimmerman, U.S. Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs to the U.S. support for Iraqi Kurds.

“There's, it's hard to find a more willing, capable group to work alongside, and we welcome the support funding that Congress has provided to continue that partnership,” Zimmerman said.

“This has become particularly stark, and I'll I'll be maybe more general how I speak here, but you know, Operation Epic Fury has shown that the Shia militia groups in Iraq have a lot of agency and independence to act in ways that are harmful to the United States, which has only showcased how helpful the Iraqi Kurdish partners are.”
