On Wednesday, Kurdistan Regional Government Interior Minister Reber Ahmed received Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) head General Zaid al-Mousawi to discuss strengthening Erbil-Baghdad security coordination.

“Key discussions focused on strengthening Erbil-Baghdad security coordination, tackling terrorism threats, and ensuring regional stability,” Ahmed posted on X.

The Iraqi CTS posted on X that the meeting focused on “coordination and the exchange of information and expertise, as well as enhancing the level of integration among security institutions to confront terrorist challenges and threats, pursue the remnants of terrorist groups, and cut off their sources of support.

“The two sides stressed the need to continue cooperation and unify efforts in a way that strengthens the security agencies’ ability to respond to challenges.”

The meeting comes before the impending withdrawal of the U.S.-led Coalition from the Kurdistan Region on September 30.
