Kurdish Officials and Russian Ambassador Strengthen Diplomatic Ties

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday, September 30, met with Russia’s Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev and discussed bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Russia.

According to a readout from the Prime Minister’s office, Prime Minister Barzani and Ambassador Kutrashev also discussed the latest preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the region scheduled for October 20, emphasizing the importance of conducting the process in a peaceful atmosphere free from violations.

Additionally, the two sides expressed the need to resolve the issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq and to ensure that the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights are upheld.

Moreover, in a meeting with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani, Ambassador Kutrashev thanked the KRG for their support in holding the conference “The Role and Influence of Russian Orientalists in the Introduction of Kurds and the Kurdish Cause,” which was held on September 29-30 at Soran University.

The conference was jointly organized by Soran University and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in coordination with the KRG’'s Representative in Russia.

During the meeting between Ambassador Kutrashev and KDP President Barzani, the two officials also discussed the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region, the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and the situation in Syria.
