On Friday, 70 officials and businesspeople participated in the Armenia EXPO 2026 to expand business ties between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia.

During the opening of the exhibition, several officials gave speeches, including Armenia’s Minister of Economy, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, the President of the Kurdistan Regional Importers Union, and the President of the Van Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye.

“I am very pleased to see such a large delegation from the Kurdistan Region visiting Armenia to participate in Armenia EXPO 2026 and meet Armenian business partners,” Armenia’s Consul General Rafayel Movsesyan told Kurdistan Chronicle.

“The participation of around 70 officials and businesspeople is a clear indication of the growing interest on both sides in expanding our trade and economic relations,” he said.

Several business leaders from the Kurdistan Region also participated in the Armenia-Iraq business Forum in Yerevan in August 2026. 

“The Consulate General continues to work closely with KRG institutions and business partners to deepen Armenia–Kurdistan Region economic cooperation. We see strong potential for further growth in bilateral trade,” Movsesyan concluded.

He added that this also included an important meeting on Friday between Ani Avetisyan, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and Sarwar Kamal Hawari, KRG Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.

According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed opportunities to further develop economic ties between Armenia and Iraq, particularly the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, increase trade volumes, and strengthen business contacts.

Armenia’s Consulate General in Erbil was first opened in 2021. Since then, relations between Armenia and the Kurdistan Region continue to expand, including through trade and education.

Ten Armenian companies participated in Agro Pack 2025 in Erbil, following Armenia’s participation in the 2024 exhibition, while 12 Kurdistan Region officials attended a training program at Armenia’s Diplomatic School in December last year. 

Armenia’s President Vahagn Khachaturyan also made his first historic first visit to Erbil on February 29, 2024.
