On Saturday, German Kurdish boxer Agit Kabayel signed the Golden Book in his hometown of Bochum on invitation of Mayor Jörg Luka and received the green and gold world championship belt on the balcony of Bochum Town Hall.

Kabayel is the first German heavyweight world champion since Max Schmeling in 1932.

“I have written history for Germany, and Kurdistan,” he said at the town hall.

World famous boxer promoter Frank Warren also attended the event. German rappers such as KC Rebell, ENO, and Azad, singer Lune, and several influencers and boxing YouTubers also attended the event.

“I’ve dedicated my entire life, my whole youth, to becoming heavyweight champion of the world. Now I’ve got the title. It doesn’t get any better than this,” Kabayel told NTV Sport in a recent interview.

This belt was once worn by boxing legends such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Vitali Klitschko, the website added.

“I represent two nations. I’m of Kurdish origin, which is why we eventually came up with the slogan: German Discipline, Kurdish Power. It’s a great joy for me to have won the title for Germany; after 94 years, we have the first German heavyweight world champion since Max Schmeling. It’s indescribable. I grew up here and have strived for recognition my whole life. Finally, I’m getting it.”

In June, Kabayel announced that he became the WBC Heavyweight World Champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated his titles.

Kabayel is sponsored by Visit Kurdistan, Kurdistan’s tourism and heritage promotion company, and visited the Kurdistan Region in April last year.
