DNO Resumes Operations in Kurdistan

On Monday, the Norwegian oil company DNO announced that the company had resumed field operations on April 9, one day after the U.S.-Iran ceasefire went into effect.

DNO also said that two wells drilled in the Tawke field in December 2025 and January 2026 were brought online early in the first quarter. However, immediately following the start of the U.S.-Israeli air campaign against Iran on February 28, DNO temporarily suspended production and drilling in Kurdistan as a safety measure.

On April 8, the United States and Iran agreed to a regional two-week ceasefire after 40 days of conflict, which also saw Iranian-backed Iraqi militia groups conduct a number of attacks on oil fields, including in the Kurdistan Region.

“On April 9, 2026, the Company restarted field operations, including workovers of existing wells, and relaunched its previously announced eight-well drilling campaign in preparation for resumption of production from the Tawke and Peshkabir at stepped up rates,” the company said.

DNO was the first Western company to enter Kurdistan in 2004, kick-starting a modern oil industry that has transformed the Kurdistan Region’s economy.

Last week, UAE-based energy company Dana Gas also announced that it had resumed production at the Khor Mor gas facility after halting natural gas exports to Kurdish power generation plants for nearly 40 days due to security threats.

The Khor Mor gas field has faced attacks before. On November 26, 2025, the Khor Mor gas field was hit by drones, shutting down production and affecting the power supply in the Kurdistan Region, which is dependent on gas.
