On Tuesday, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs (MoPA) said that three Peshmerga soldiers had been injured in drone attacks in the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
“This irresponsible aggression comes at a time when the bases of the Peshmerga forces have previously been subjected to bombardment on multiple occasions. The Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces and the Joint Operations Command have been notified of these violations,” the MoPA said.
“We strongly condemn this terrorist act and call upon the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces to fulfill his legal duty by setting clear limits on these internal aggressions. Swift and urgent steps must be taken to prevent these outlaw groups from repeating such actions, which pose a threat to the security of the region.”
According to a March 16 report from Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) - Iraqi Kurdistan, a total of eight individuals have been killed and 51 injured in the Kurdistan Region due to drone, ballistic missile, and rocket attacks since the beginning of the U.S.-Israel-Iran war on February 28.
The CPT said that these attacks have targeted the MoPA headquarters, civilian residential areas, the UAE Consulate General in Erbil, oil fields, military bases of non-belligerent coalition forces, and public places.
A large number of these attacks were carried out by Iraqi armed groups that are on the payroll of the Iraqi government.
The Iraqi Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, has issued directives to Iraqi security agencies to pursue and track down the perpetrators of attacks, but none have been arrested so far.
