Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Saturday received phone calls from Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and France’s President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
During their phone call, the Kurdish president and French counterpart shared their views on the current regional situation and the consequences of the ongoing war.
They expressed serious concern about the risk of further escalation and agreed on the urgent need to strengthen international efforts to restore peace and security across the region.
“I reaffirmed France’s commitment to the stability and security of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region. I also expressed my solidarity with him regarding the attacks of the past few days,” French President Macron posted on X in Kurdish.
“We agreed to continue our efforts to prevent the escalation of tensions in the region. For this purpose, I thanked him for his commitment to this direction,” he added.
“France will continue to support full respect for the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region.”
In a separate phone call, President Erdogan conveyed his sincere gratitude to Barzani for his constructive contribution to fostering peace in Turkey. He emphasized that these stances are essential for strengthening unity and coexistence among peoples, as well as for alleviating tensions in the region.
Both leaders agreed that the escalation of tensions poses a real threat to present and future stability and emphasized the necessity of pursuing political solutions to prevent the spread of conflict and protect nations from the devastation of war.
The Kurdistan Region President emphasized that the Kurdistan Region will always strive for peace and support all peaceful initiatives and dialogue aimed at resolving issues in a manner that safeguards the security and mutual interests of the people of the region.
Since the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran began on February 28, several attacks have been carried out on U.S. bases in Erbil and Baghdad, as well as on oil facilities in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and members of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties.
