On March 2, the New York Kurdish Cultural Center (NYKCC), a nonprofit organization focused on promoting Kurdish culture, received a message from New York Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, who expressed his best wishes for Kurdish Heritage Month, which takes place in March.
“I am delighted to welcome everyone as the NYKCC celebrates Kurdish Heritage Month,” he said.
“As the most diverse city in the nation, we must champion our differences and strengthen the social fabric that connects the five boroughs. NYKCC is dedicated to uniting Kurdish Americans in solidarity as they promote the linguistic and cultural heritage of their ancestral homeland spanning parts of West Asia and the Middle East.”
Mamdani said that the Kurdish nonprofit offers a wide range of programs, including monthly book and cinema clubs, an annual film festival, public panels and lectures, and community gatherings. “Our administration is committed to fostering creative expression, mutual understanding, and civic engagement in our metropolis, and NYKCC is a valuable ally in this mission. Together, we will deliver a city that belongs to every New Yorker.
“On behalf of the City of New York, I offer my best wishes for a meaningful celebration that will inspire pride and fellowship,” he concluded.
