On Friday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Interior Reber Ahmed met the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Barham Salih to discuss the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and asylum seekers in the Kurdistan Region.
“The KRG remains committed to providing support and protection to displaced communities,” Minister Ahmed posted on X.
“Also, we congratulated him on his new role, wishing him every success in this vital mission.”
Srwa Rasul, Director General of the KRG Joint Crisis Coordination Center, told Kurdistan Chronicle that “during the meeting between Minister Ahmed and UNHCR head Salih, the following points were discussed: the current challenges facing refugees and IDPs, particularly the reduction in support.
“They also talked about our partnership with UNHCR and the special instructions provided by the KRG to support refugees in coordination with UNHCR.
All these points were discussed in detail, and both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership and continuing support for this file. The Kurdistan Region remains a very important area and has always been a safe home for all.”
