On December 5, the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Erbil hosted a public screening of the film The Men (1973) as part of broader efforts to promote cultural cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia.

The comedy movie follows four friends who work as taxi drivers in the Armenian capital of Yerevan and try to help one of their friends marry the love of his life.

“We believe cultural exchange is one of the most effective ways to bring societies closer to one another. The people of Armenia and the people of the Kurdistan Region have many similarities, and when they encounter each other, they quickly recognize how close they already are,” Consul General of the Republic of Armenia Rafayel Movsesyan told Kurdistan Chronicle.

“We selected the film The Men because it embodies many of the cultural elements that the two societies share. It is one of the most beloved Armenian films – a lyrical comedy about friendship and love. The film highlights a familiar mentality, a warm sense of humor, traditional dances, and cultural codes that resonate on both sides. Even the main character’s name, Aram, is widespread here in the Kurdistan Region. In other words, this film allows audiences to recognize themselves in the story, despite the distance in geography and time,” he added.

Furthermore, Consul General Movsesyan underlined that he is pleased that relations between Armenia and the Kurdistan Region continue to develop in various fields, giving as an example the participation of ten Armenian companies that took part in the recent Agro Pack 2025 (Agricultural) exhibition in Erbil. Armenia also participated in Agro Pack 2024.

“A distinguished Armenian scientist is currently visiting the Kurdistan Region. At the same time, 12 officials from the Kurdistan Region are in Armenia, attending a training program at the Diplomatic School of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said.
