Colonel Stephanie Bagley, Defense Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, met with senior officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior and Peshmerga forces on Wednesday, a week after the attack on the Khor Mor gas field.
According to the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, both sides discussed efforts to bolster coordination against malign actors targeting Iraq’s stability and critical infrastructure.
“The United States remains committed to supporting security efforts and reinforcing Iraqi sovereignty,” the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil said.
KRG Minister of Interior Reber Ahmed confirmed on X that they “discussed the recent attack on the Khor Mor gas field, the need to strengthen air defense for the Kurdistan Region, our joint efforts to combat terrorism, and prospects for future co-operation.”

The investigative committee probing the November 26 attack on the Khor Mor gas field on Wednesday recommended that the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, in coordination with the KRG, provide the Khor Mor Gas field with air-defense systems and ensure its protection.

The recommendation was accepted by the Iraqi government and the KRG.

At the opening of the new U.S. Consulate General building on Wednesday – the largest U.S. Consulate in the world – U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael Rigas also urged “Iraqi and Kurdish partners to meet this moment to disempower and dismantle Iran-aligned militias that continue to engage in violent and destabilizing activities and only serve to harm Iraqi sovereignty.”
