In a statement on Thursday, the Barzani Headquarters underlined that serious action needs to be taken against the perpetrators of the attacks on the Kurdistan Region’s energy infrastructure.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attack that targeted the Khor Mor field last night. This attack is against the economic foundations and the interests of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and all citizens,” it said.
“Despite the fact that such unjustified attacks on the region have been condemned many times before, they have resulted only in statements of condemnation, without any action taken against the perpetrators – allowing these attacks to be repeated.
“The time has come to take serious and practical steps against these violations and unjust attacks, to put an end to them, and to punish those responsible,” the headquarters said.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday received a phone call from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, who condemned the drone attack on the Khor Mor gas field and promised to arrest the perpetrators.
“We agreed to form a joint investigative committee to identify and prosecute those responsible,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.
The U.S. Special Envoy to Iraq Mark Savaya in a post on X on Thursday underlined that “armed groups operating illegally and driven by hostile foreign agendas carried out an attack yesterday on the Khor Mor gas field.

“The Government of Iraq must identify those responsible for this assault and bring them to justice.”
Furthermore, Ano Jawhar Abdulmaseeh Abdoka, KRG Minister of Transport and Communications, in a post on X underlined that these “terrorist attacks on Khor Mor and other Kurdistan Region strategic sites are a direct assault on the people of Kurdistan and on Iraq’s vital energy infrastructure.
“These militias are acting in a rogue manner that defies all Iraq’s democratic institutions. Our region’s energy and electricity production facilities represent an important source of Iraq’s national electricity production, which faces blackouts and growing danger because of these threats.”
