“We agreed to form a joint investigative committee to identify and prosecute those responsible,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.

We agreed to form a joint investigative committee to identify and prosecute those responsible.
“Production has been shut down to extinguish the fire and conduct a situation assessment. The Company continues to coordinate with local authorities and further updates will be provided to the market in due course,” Dana Gas said in a statement.
The Civil Defense Directorate in Chamchamal announced on Thursday that the massive fire had been fully contained.
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced a loss of 1,200 MW of power, attributing this to the suspension of energy purchase contracts from power plants in the Kurdistan Region, and the shutdown of the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah after it was targeted yesterday.

The Khor Mor attacked renewed calls in the Kurdistan Region for anti-drone defenses.
“I condemn the cowardly attack on the Khor Mor gas field in the strongest terms and urge the federal government to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” KRG Prime Minister Barzani posted on X shortly after the attack, adding that American and international partners should provide the defensive equipment necessary to protect civilian infrastructure.
“How many attacks must happen before the U.S. government simply allows the KRG to purchase kinetic anti-drone equipment for us to defend our skies and critical infrastructure? The Iraqi government isn’t interested,” Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to KRG Prime Minister Barzani, posted on X.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Thursday condemned the attack, and called it an “affront to the economic infrastructure and public services of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, posing a direct threat to the country’s security and stability.
“It is the obligation and responsibility of the Iraqi federal government, along with the security agencies, to undertake serious efforts promptly and implement the necessary and effective measures to investigate and punish the perpetrators of this crime, as well as to prevent its recurrence.”
The Khor Mor gas field and other oil fields in the Kurdistan Region have been repeatedly attacked over the years, but so far the perpetrators have not been held accountable.
“Unfortunately, those people were known, and the names and the name of groups were clearly communicated with the federal government,” KRG Prime Minister Barzani said during the Middle East Peace and Security Forum last week.
“Some people were even arrested. But then they were released on bail, and they didn’t face the consequences that they were supposed to. And that basically shouldn’t happen in a country where the law should be above all.”
