The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) media department announced on Saturday that it is facilitating the export of local agricultural products to international markets, with 6,000 tons of potatoes set to be exported to the UAE this year.

“With its fertile soil and favorable climate, the Kurdistan Region produces a wide range of agricultural goods annually. Potatoes remain a leading product, with an estimated annual output of 600,000 tons,” the KRG Department of Media and Information said.

“Renowned for their quality, Kurdistan’s potatoes have attracted growing interest from international food industry brands.”

The KRG’s Ninth Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, has focused on reducing reliance on oil by increasing the export of agricultural products and supporting the agricultural sector.

On April 12, 2022, the Kurdistan Region exported pomegranates to Gulf countries and France for the first time.

In July last year, the KRG announced that the Kurdistan Region’s potato production would reach 1 million tons in 2024.

The Kurdistan Region has also exported potatoes to Saudi Arabia and Oman.
