Kurdistan Region Potato Production to Reach 1 Million Tons: KRG

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Media and Information (DMI) on July 23 announced that the Kurdistan Region’s potato production will reach 1 million tons in 2024.

“In the next few days, we will export Kurdistan potatoes to Saudi Arabia and Oman. This year, a total of 40,000 tons will be exported,” the DMI wrote in a post on X.

“We export potatoes to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. This is another achievement of the Ninth Cabinet as we are advancing agriculture.”

The KRG’s Ninth Cabinet has focused on reducing reliance on oil and increasing the export of agricultural products.

On April 12, 2022, the Kurdistan Region exported pomegranates to Gulf countries and France for the first time.

The Kurdistan Region has also started to export Kurdish potatoes and honey to Gulf countries.

On June 11, 2024, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visited potato fields in the Bardarash District and met with local farmers.

During the visit, Prime Minister Barzani thanked the farmers for the improvements made in agricultural production and reiterated his government’s commitment to foster further development of and support to the agricultural sector.
