Adel Mullah Salih, a prominent Kurdish activist and Director of Information and Communications at the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Victims Affairs, has made history by being re-elected as the World Peace Ambassador for the Middle East.

The World Peace Center held a World Peace Congress in Cairo on December 15, 2024 where 500 representatives from Arab countries gathered.

In an exclusive interview with Kurdistan Chronicle, Salih expressed his gratitude and humility upon receiving the ambassadorship for the second time. “I am very happy to have been given the post for the second time at the World Peace Conference, which is held annually in Cairo.”

“A human and moral duty”

Salih highlighted the Kurdish people’s resilience amid historical hardships, emphasizing their struggle for democratic elections and the establishment of the KRG. “In the past, our nation has suffered the extermination of Anfal, the destruction of our villages, and the genocides of the Barzanis and Failis. However, the Kurdish people continued their struggle until the uprising and establishing the Kurdistan Regional Government and other legitimate democratic institutions.”

There are some requirements to be eligible for this esteemed title. Candidates must demonstrate:

-   A spotless record and strong moral compass

-   No criminal convictions

- Adherence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and a commitment to peaceful coexistence and human rights protection

- Five years of volunteer service, showing a proven dedication to humanitarian work

- Five notable achievements in the field of humanitarian activities

Salih told Kurdistan Chronicle that he was fortunate to have met all the requirements. “Ambassador of Peace is not just a title, but it is a human and moral duty. I look forward to the coordination of the relevant parties to officially start my projects in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. In all cases, we have developed an agenda for this task and worked on them with the support of Allah and the courage of our loyal friends,” he stressed.

At the end of the event in Cairo, he was awarded the special award from the World Peace Center, a medal of honor, a shawl, and the title of “Ambassador of Peace.”

Promoting reconciliation

Salih was born in 1978 in a village in the Kalar district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate. He is married with two children and serves as president of the Humanitarian and Peace Service Organization. His dedication to humanitarian work and reconciliation have led to numerous impactful projects, including being re-elected as World Peace Ambassador.

This remarkable achievement underscores Salih’s tireless efforts to promote peace, humanity, and reconciliation in the region. He also vows to dedicate a great deal of his time to the Kurdish people and issues across the Middle East and the world.
