Kurdistan Region President Discusses UAE-KRG Cooperation

During an official working visit to the UAE on Monday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, and discussed enhancing the relationship between the UAE, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the Kurdish President was received at al-Bateen Executive Airport by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon al-Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, along with a number of senior officials.

WAM reported that during the meeting between the Kurdistan Region President and UAE counterpart, they “discussed ways to strengthen cooperation to serve the shared interests of both countries and support their peoples’ aspirations for sustainable growth and prosperity.

According to a readout from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, they also examined potential investment opportunities for the UAE and its private sector in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, sharing insights on areas where the UAE could engage in investment.

Additionally, the two leaders addressed recent developments in the region, including the related threats and implications for the Middle East and neighboring countries.

Both sides underscored the necessity of fostering peace and stability, advocating for restraint and wisdom in addressing the current situation to avert further tensions and conflicts. They emphasized the collective effort required to promote peace and stability.

The meeting also touched upon the situation in Syria and other relevant issues of mutual concern.

In February, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also visited the UAE and met with several prominent UAE and Gulf officials on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the Kurdish leader focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the Kurdistan Region and participating countries, exploring new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and economics, as well as addressing key regional and international developments.
