President Trump Stresses Ties with Kurdistan Region

The Kurdistan Region Presidency on Thursday reported that Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a handwritten correspondence on Thursday from U.S. President Donald Trump, in which President Trump underlined the importance of ties with the Kurdistan Region.

“President Trump thanked President Nechirvan Barzani for his letter and wrote of the importance of collaboration and promotion of shared values with the Kurdistan Region,” the Kurdistan Presidency said in a press release.

“The U.S. President also extended his best wishes to the President of the Kurdistan Region for his continued success.”

Top Kurdish leaders on January 20 congratulated President Trump on his inauguration as President of the United States.

On November 23, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his optimism about a new administration during the 2024 Middle East Peace and Security Forum.

“We have experience with the previous Trump administration,” Prime Minister Barzani said.

“We are hoping that the new administration is going to maintain good relations with Iraq and especially with the Kurdistan Region, which has been a very credible partner to the United States in fighting against terrorism, promoting peace, and championing the values and principles that we share.”
