Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday welcomed the UK’s Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in Erbil to discuss bilateral relations.

“Our strong security partnership remains vital in addressing shared challenges and promoting stability,” President Barzani posted on X.
The Kurdistan Region Presidency in a readout said they discussed the “importance of collaborative efforts in various sectors, particularly in security cooperation and combating organized crime, illegal migration, human trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime.”
President Barzani highlighted the significance of enhancing international collaboration to address security and humanitarian issues, as well as tackling international crimes.
President Barzani commended the UK for its contributions to fostering regional stability and its support in advancing the security and administrative capacities of the Kurdistan Region.
UK Home Secretary Cooper congratulated the Kurdistan Region on its successful parliamentary elections, which took place on October 22.

She also expressed gratitude for the Kurdistan Region’s role as a strategic partner in enhancing regional security and reaffirmed her country’s ongoing commitment to supporting and collaborating with both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to promote stability and address humanitarian crises in the wider region.
They also discussed the establishment of the new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government, the urgent need for the implementation of the Iraqi constitution, the resolution of internal issues in the country, the ongoing threat posed by ISIS, recent developments in the Middle East, and other matters of mutual concern.
