President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday welcomed Germany’s newly appointed Consul General in Erbil Albrecht von Wittke, in which he expressed support for enhancing bilateral ties.
“The meeting included discussions on the regional political climate, recent successful elections, and formation of a new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet,” Safeen Dizayee, head of the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations, posted on X.

The Barzani Headquarters said in a statement that they had discussed the recent situation in Iraq, Baghdad-Erbil relations, and the next steps following the Kurdistan Parliament elections, as well as the formation of the new government.
In a post on X, Germany’s Consulate General in Erbil thanked President Barzani for “receiving me so soon after the Kurdistan Region elections.
“The political parties that have earned the trust of the Kurdistan Region voters now have a high responsibility to swiftly form a new government as an expression of stability and democratic development.”

In a meeting with KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday, Consul General von Wittke also underlined the importance of forming a new cabinet.
“We wish the Kurdistan Region a swift formation of the new government as an expression of stability and democratic development,” the Consulate General posted on X.
