Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday met with King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain and expressed his appreciation for the King’s support of bilateral relations between Bahrain and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

“Bahrain’s economy has grown enormously in the last 20 years. I explained to HM the King that the Kurdistan Region is keen to heed their lessons for shortcuts,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X
The KRG in a readout underlined that King al-Khalifa “praised the progress, development, peaceful situation, and the unity of the Kurdistan Region under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani, and expressed Bahrain’s readiness to support the Kurdistan Region in all areas.”Moreover, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Bahrain’s support and cooperation. Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening relations, reopening Bahrain’s consulate in the Kurdistan Region, and starting direct flights between Manama and Erbil in the future.

According to the readout of Bahrain News Agency, Prime Minister Barzani also conveyed the greetings of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and his best wishes for Bahrain’s continued development and prosperity.
Both parties also “reviewed the strong ties between Bahrain and the Kurdistan Region, focusing on opportunities to enhance cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of both sides. Regional and international developments of shared interest were also discussed.”

Prime Minister Barzani also discussed the latest changes in the region with other Bahraini officials such as National Security Advisor Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al-Khalifa, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser al-Mubarak, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa.

Prime Minister Barzani on Tuesday also met with Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, and discussed strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Bahrain in various fields.
“The talks also emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as addressing recent developments and future prospects regarding the general situation in the region, particularly the changes in Syria,” the KRG said in a readout.
