In a statement on Saturday, President Masoud Barzani expressed his hope that the recent developments in Syria will lead to dialogue and a peaceful agreement between the different Syrian factions.
“We are following with great interest the recent events and changes taking place in Syria, as these developments and events have a direct impact on the political future, security, and stability of Syria and our entire region,” President Barzani stated.
“We hope that these developments and changes in Syria will lead to adopting dialogue and understanding as a basis for resolving outstanding issues, and that no act will be practiced that results in deepening national and sectarian differences between the components of Syria.”
Moreover, he underlined that he looks forward to seeing “the concerned parties reach an agreement through peaceful means that serves the interests of all components of Syria and achieves coexistence, peace, and stability.”
President Barzani’s statement comes amid a lightning offensive by Syrian opposition groups, which have captured several cities in Syria, including Aleppo, Hama, Suwayda province, and Dara.
