Iraq's Largest Dairy Farm Opens in Dohuk

On Monday, October 7, the largest dairy farm in Iraq opened in Duhok Governorate. Kavin Farms is expected to produce 120,000 liters of milk per day and create 1,000 new jobs.

Speaking during the opening of the farm, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani underlined that ensuring food security and providing job opportunities is a priority for the KRG.

“Ensuring food security for our citizens is one of our top priorities and I am happy to see projects like this being implemented across Kurdistan in all governorates,” Prime Minister Barzani said in his speech.

“What we are striving for is the provisioning of food security in the Kurdistan Region and citizens not having to rely on imported food,” he added. “If we are ever faced with a crisis, food security should not be the worry of our people.”

Moreover, Prime Minister Barzani said that people should look beyond the public sector for employment opportunities. “These projects provide job opportunities so that people have a choice between the private and public sector.”

“This project will have a big impact on trade. We have seriously pursued connecting Kurdistan to the global market and paving the way for domestic exports to the world. May Kurdistan continue to prosper.”

The KRG’s Ninth Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Barzani, has prioritized enhancing the banking sector, improving government services, advancing digitalization, stimulating the private sector, and promoting domestic products, agriculture, and exports of local products, such as potatoes.
