India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6 thanked Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani for his congratulations on Prime Minister Modi’s re-election.

On June 5, President Barzani congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his re-election on behalf of the Kurdistan Region.
“We look forward to continued progress in relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq with India,” he wrote on X.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to be sworn in for a third term on June 9, following his victory in the general elections held in India from April 19 to June 1, 2024.

On June 4, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with India’s Ambassador to Iraq Prashant Pise and discussed bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and India.
A trade delegation from India is currently in the Kurdistan Region to improve business-to-business relations.
