On May 26, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Secretary-General of Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Hassen al-Hammadi, and Qatar’s Ambassador to Iraq Sultan bin Mubarak Al-Kubaisi jointly presided over the opening ceremony of Qatar’s Consulate General in Erbil.

“We invite Qatari investors to visit the Kurdistan Region and carry out projects in various fields, and we in the KRG are ready to provide any facilities in this field,” Prime Minister Barzani said at the inauguration event.
“We are pleased with the positive relations between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar. In the past, several senior Qatari officials have visited the Kurdistan Region, and we have similarly visited the State of Qatar.”
Last year, the first shipment of Kurdistan’s agricultural exports arrived in the Qatari market.

“We hold immense respect for His Excellency Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and aspire to deepen our bilateral relations across diverse sectors, grounded in shared interests.”
He underlined that the opening of Qatar’s Consulate General will significantly bolster bilateral relations across diverse sectors, particularly in trade, agriculture, culture, and higher education.
“Given Qatar’s wealth of experience and success in investment, construction, energy, mobility, and economic activity, the Kurdistan Region stands to gain significantly by leveraging Qatar’s expertise in these fields,” he concluded.
He added that the KRG strives to actively encourage and support diversified investment, aligning with the government’s economic diversification agenda.

Prime Minister Barzani also recalled in a post on X that the first shipment of Kurdistan’s agricultural exports arrived in the Qatari market in 2023. “We’re also in talks regarding industry, banking and renewables,” he added.
