Terrorist Attack Targets Khor Mor Gas Field: KRG
November 09, 2026

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources and Ministry of Electricity on Sunday confirmed that the Khor Mor gas field had been targeted in a terrorist attack.

“Both ministries are working to ensure that the attack has the least possible impact on electricity supply hours for consumers and that electricity services return to normal as soon as possible,” the ministries said in a joint statement.

The last major attack on the Khor Mor gas field was on November 26, 2025, when a drone strike hit a liquid storage tank, causing a fire and shutting down gas production.

Local media reported that electricity generation would be reduced by 2,800 MW following the attack on Khor Mor.

Khor Mor's production was previously suspended on February 28 and July 16, 2026, as a security precaution amid the war between the U.S., Israel and Iran.

After the attack, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, ordered the formation of a joint investigative committee with authorities in the Kurdistan Region to investigate the attack on the Khor Mor gas field in Chamchamal district, Sulaymaniyah province, at 11:10 p.m. on November 8.

According to preliminary information, the attack caused no casualties, the Security Media Cell said in a statement.
