On Wednesday evening, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani called for compromise and dialogue between Kurdish parties after the reactivation of the Kurdistan Region Parliament earlier that day.
“I reaffirm that dialogue, compromise, and partnership among all political forces are the foundation for overcoming differences and meeting challenges,” he said.
“Safeguarding political stability and protecting the institutions of the Kurdistan Region is a responsibility we all share.”
He also welcomed the reconvening of the Kurdistan Region Parliament, after the parliament reached the legal quorum. “Parliament is the highest institution representing the will of all the people of Kurdistan,” he said.
“I call on all political forces to take an active part in its proceedings and, in a spirit of national responsibility, to resolve their differences within the parliamentary framework.
“I hope this step will help break the political deadlock and create a more favorable environment for greater understanding and cooperation among all political parties.”

Earlier today, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Kurdish President Masoud Barzani called on all parties boycotting today’s session of the Kurdistan Region Parliament to join the parliament.
The Kurdistan Region has been without an active parliament for two years despite holding elections on October 20, 2024.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and a number of opposition parties did not attend the parliament meeting, while 52 members of parliament, including the Kurdistan Democratic Party members, backed the session. So far, the PUK has released no official statement on the reactivation of the parliament.
