Kurdistan Region Parliament Plans to Hold First Session in Two Years
November 03, 2026

The Kurdistan Region Parliament has invited lawmakers to attend the first session of its autumn term on Wednesday, November 4, two years after elections were held in the Kurdistan Region.

In an official notice issued by the parliament’s Directorate of Parliamentary Affairs and Committees, all members were invited to attend the session at 11:00 am.

The session will be part of the sixth electoral term of the Kurdistan Parliament.

In October, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani underlined that the Kurdistan Region Parliament should be reactivated as a crucial first step toward forming the new KRG cabinet.

Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections were held on October 20, 2024, with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leading with 39 seats, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) with 23 seats, and the New Generation Movement with 15.

However, no government has been formed yet, despite several meetings between the ruling KDP and PUK parties.

The KDP bloc in Parliament and other minority parties have called on other political parties to join the meeting.

“We, the undersigned Members of Parliament, therefore call upon all fellow members, from every political bloc and among the independents, to attend the parliamentary session,” the KDP bloc said.

“We hope that all Members of Parliament will shoulder this responsibility together.”

For the meeting to take place, they need to reach a quorum of 51 MPs.
