On October 17, 2026, the Kurdish community of North Texas participated in the 22nd annual Plano International Festival for the first time. The event brought together diverse ethnic groups, international organizations, and local residents to share cultural heritage and build connections.
To represent Kurdistan, local organizers set up a dedicated tent featuring traditional items, historical displays, and regional decorations, giving visitors a closer look at Kurdish identity and centuries-old traditions.
“Kurdistan’s participation showcased the richness of Kurdish history and cultural heritage,” said Lanya Jamal Saeed, a community activist and organizer. “The tent offered visitors an opportunity to discover Kurdish identity, appreciate its cultural legacy, and learn about the traditions preserved across generations.”
During the global parade of flags, the Kurdistan flag was carried alongside flags from around the world to mark the community’s debut at the festival.
“Taking part in major regional multicultural gatherings helps Kurds introduce their heritage to a wider audience while inspiring younger generations to remain connected to their roots,” Saeed concluded.
