On Sunday, the Kurdistan Region Presidency strongly condemned Saturday’s attack against King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which resulted in several casualties and injuries among civilians.
“We extend our condolences and sympathy to the leadership, government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as to the families of the victims, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the Kurdistan Region Presidency said.
“We reaffirm our support and solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and stress the need to protect civilian lives, de-escalate tensions, and safeguard the security and stability of the region.”
On Friday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned earlier attacks on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport.
“Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable,” KRG Prime Minister Barzani said.
A Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, October 10, killed 12 and injured more than 300, a major escalation in the conflict between the Saudi Arabian-backed Yemeni government and the Iranian-backed Houthis.
The attack was widely condemned by the international community.
The Houthis have since threatened to carry out more attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia.
