On Wednesday, a new Kurdish song and video clip, Rash u Spi (“Black and White”), was officially launched at Youth Hub on Erbil Avenue in an event sponsored by Kurdistan Chronicle.

The project brings together lyrics by Qubadi Jalizada, composition by Kurdish singer Mahir Amin, musical arrangement by Dr. Nahro Zagros, and video direction by Daroon Qaradaghi.

“Unlike typical commercial releases, the project started with a poetic text, with the music created to serve the lyrics – a reversal of the usual process. The goal is to change the mindset of how lyrics are turned into songs,” Amin told Kurdistan Chronicle.

“In producing this work, an effort was made to create a video worthy of the song. I am also proud and happy that the great poet Qubadi Jalizada, who wrote the lyrics, appears in the video,” Amin said.

Amin was born in 1973 in Rawanduz. He has released several albums and recorded works and has a dedicated following.
