KRG Representative Welcomes New Iraqi Ambassador to the U.S.

On Thursday, September 17, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representative to the United States Treefa Aziz met with Krikor Der-Hagopian, Iraq’s new Ambassador to the United States, and congratulated him on his appointment. During the meeting, Aziz highlighted the importance of collaboration between the KRG Representation and the Iraqi Embassy in Washington, D.C.


“We look forward to a new chapter of partnership with Ambassador Der-Hagopian and to working together in support of a strong and prosperous Iraq, a thriving Kurdistan Region, and an enduring relationship with the United States,” the KRG Representation in the United States wrote on X.



Ambassador Der-Hagopian officially presented his credentials to U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, September 15. According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his mission will focus on monitoring the outcomes of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s visit to the United States, aiming to strengthen Iraqi-American relations through enhanced strategic partnerships in political, economic, investment, and security sectors.
