On Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed that oil production in the Kurdistan Region be increased and that exploration activities and oil exploration blocks be expanded.

Prime Minister al-Zaidi chaired a meeting on Tuesday with senior officials from the federal Ministry of Oil, attended by the ministers of finance and oil and a number of advisors, to discuss a strategic plan to develop and increase Iraq’s oil production for the 2027–2030 period.

The goal of this new plan is to raise oil production to approximately 10 million barrels per day by 2030. 

During the war between the United States and Iran that started on February 28, most international oil companies stopped production in the Kurdistan Region. 

According to Gulf Keystone, its first production shut-in occurred from February 28 to June 23, followed by a second shut-in from July 19 to August 15.

However, oil production levels have largely recovered in the Kurdistan Region, with most companies resuming production in August.

On August 29, Kamal Mohammed Salih, the Kurdistan Regional Government Minister of Natural Resources, told reporters that oil companies in the Kurdistan Region have reached a production level of approximately 220,000–250,000 barrels of oil per day.
