German-Kurdish footballer Deniz Undav, who plays for Germany’s national team, and Kurdish world boxing champion Agit Kabayel congratulated Amedspor on social media for their 2–1 victory over Trabzonspor on Monday evening.

Amedspor and Trabzonspor met for the first time at a highly anticipated match in Diyarbakır (Amed). Tickets were sold out days in advance, and the 33,000-capacity Diyarbakır Stadium was packed, reported BBC Turkish.

Before the match, 25 children joined the players in the pre-match ceremony.

In May, the Kurdish club Amedspor was promoted to the highest Turkish football league, also known as the Super League, leading to mass celebrations among Kurds.

On August 16, Amedspor won its first match in the Turkish Super League against Erzurumspor with a score of 3-0. 

Also on Monday, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Erbil SC defeated Al Mina’a 2–0 in an Iraqi Stars League match, with goals from Nathã Miullen in the 17th minute and Christopher John in the 78th.
