On Wednesday, August 26, President Masoud Barzani met with Dr. Mohammed Ali al-Lami, Head of the Iraqi Federal Commission of Integrity. During the meeting, President Barzani expressed his full support for the federal government’s efforts to eradicate corruption.

President Barzani reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region will under no circumstances become a safe haven for corrupt individuals. “There are no red lines for anyone or any party in the fight against corruption,” he said, emphasizing that a successful anti-corruption campaign requires unwavering consistency to ensure justice is served.

According to a statement from Barzani Headquarters, al-Lami provided a comprehensive briefing on efforts to curb public fund embezzlement and advance anti-corruption initiatives.

Commending President Barzani’s historic role in shaping the new Iraq, Dr. al-Lami requested his continued support in eliminating corruption nationwide. Additionally, he praised the cooperation and assistance of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) institutions, expressing gratitude on behalf of the Federal Integrity Commission.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also received al-Lami and his accompanying delegation. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Federal Commission of Integrity and relevant authorities in the Kurdistan Region. Both parties highlighted the crucial independence of integrity bodies and their essential role in upholding the rule of law.

The two meetings were attended by Dr. Ahmed Anwar, Head of the Kurdistan Region Commission of Integrity. In July, Anwar met with the KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to combating all forms of corruption, emphasizing that “the government is fully ready to provide all necessary support and coordination to sustain the anti-corruption drive.”
