On Thursday, U.S. Representative Don Bacon condemned the Iranian drone attack on Monday that targeted both Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s private office and the home of the director of the KRG Security Council.
“I condemn this reckless and unacceptable attack in the strongest terms. Iran’s continued and irresponsible aggression, now targeting the property of senior KRG officials, represents a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the region’s stability,” U.S. Representative Bacon said.
“As the Co-Chair of the Kurdish-American Caucus, I stand firmly with our Kurdish partners and will continue to champion their security, sovereignty, and democratic aspirations.”
“Thank you Congressman for your support and solidarity with the people of the Kurdistan Region,” Treefa Aziz, the KRG representative in the United States, posted in reply on X.

In an interview on Thursday, KRG Prime Minister Barzani told Al Monitor that the Kurdistan Region has not threatened its neighbors.“We have not provoked or threatened the security of any of our neighbors,” said Prime Minister Barzani. “Why they’re attacking us is a question that I think has to be addressed to them,” he added, referring to Iran.
“They’re just trying to intimidate us and maybe drag us into something that we strongly resist, and we don’t want to be a part of this conflict,” he said.
