“The KDP is a Source of Hope and Strength for Kurdistan”: President Masoud Barzani

On Sunday, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) celebrated the 80th anniversary of its founding by General Mustafa Barzani in Baghdad on August 16, 1946.

“The Party was founded during a difficult and challenging period in order to restore hope and strength to the people of Kurdistan,” President Masoud Barzani said in a statement. “Throughout the history of its struggle, the Party has been a school for the activists and revolutionaries of Kurdistan, and at every stage it has been a steadfast defender of the legitimate rights of the people of Kurdistan.

“The Party firmly believes in coexistence, fraternity, and harmony among all national and religious communities, as well as among all political parties in Kurdistan and Iraq. It also regards the principles of partnership and respect for the Constitution as guarantees of stability, peace, and prosperity throughout Iraq.”

The anniversary coincided with the birthday of President Masoud Barzani.

“Under the leadership and guidance of President Masoud Barzani, the KDP continues the sacred path of the immortal Barzani and continues to record great achievements and a history that is a source of pride for every devoted Kurd,” KDP Vice President and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said in a statement.

“The Party and President Barzani are a source of hope, aspiration, and trust for the people of Kurdistan, and a guarantee for protecting and advancing the security and stability of the constitutional entity of the Kurdistan Region, the culture of peaceful coexistence among the communities of Kurdistan, and the planning and realization of Kurdistan’s revival, reconstruction, and progress.”

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also underlined that, 80 years ago, the Party was born as a historical necessity from the heart of the dreams and aspirations of the people of Kurdistan, in order to lead the Kurdistan liberation movement toward freedom.

“Today, after eight decades filled with sacrifice and great achievements, it continues its struggle with the same determination and sense of historic responsibility to safeguard constitutional gains and achieve a better future for the people of Kurdistan.

“On this blessed anniversary, we reaffirm the Party’s national responsibility as a pioneer and driving force in strengthening the unity, coexistence, and cohesion of the people of Kurdistan in all their diversity.”In a congratulatory message, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi wished the KDP continued success.

“On this occasion, we recall its political approach and contributions to national life alongside Iraq’s other political forces, and emphasize the importance of continuing joint efforts to consolidate partnership in the country, strengthen stability, preserve Iraq’s unity and sovereignty, and build a future that fulfills the aspirations of all its citizens.”
