During a meeting on Wednesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers strongly condemned the continued terrorist attacks against the Kurdistan Region. 

The Council stressed that these attacks pose a clear threat to security, stability, the lives of citizens, and the interests of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. 

The council also reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has never been part of the conflicts in the region, but has consistently supported peace, dialogue, and good neighborly relations.

The Kurdistan Region has faced several drone attacks since mid-July amid increasing escalation between Iran and the United States.

“The Kurdistan Region has never been a party to this conflict, yet it has been targeted and attacked,” KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani told reporters on Monday. 

“These attacks occurred previously on a daily basis, and over the past 10 to 15 days, the Kurdistan Region has once again come under fire. It is truly unfortunate. We hope that the sovereignty of Iraq, and specifically that of the Kurdistan Region, will be respected.”

During the meeting, the KRG Minister of Finance and Economy presented the KRG’s preparations for its 2027 federal budget proposal. Officials also reviewed the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional budget rights, legal obstacles in previous federal budget laws, and measures to address delays in salary payments.

The Council of Ministers instructed the Ministries of Finance, Economy and Planning to work with all government institutions to prepare a unified 2027 budget proposal. It stressed the need to safeguard the region’s constitutional financial rights, remove legal obstacles, and ensure equal salary payments and financial entitlements for Kurdistan Region employees in line with the rest of Iraq.
