On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani marked the 10th anniversary of the failed coup attempt in Türkiye, paying tribute to those killed while defending the country’s elected institutions and reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s support for stability in its neighboring state.

“On the 10th anniversary of the coup attempt in Türkiye, we pay tribute to those who were martyred in defense of the Turkish state’s elected institutions. Political violence must be condemned in all its forms. We wish for the continued peace and prosperity of our neighbor Türkiye,” he posted.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also posted on X that “we honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in defense of Türkiye’s democracy and constitutional order. We stand in solidarity with the people of Türkiye on this day of remembrance.

“Over the past two decades, Türkiye has undergone significant transformation under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, strengthening its role as a leading regional power and advancing its economic development, infrastructure, and international influence,” he said.

“The Kurdistan Region values its strong partnership with Türkiye and remains committed to further strengthening our close ties and cooperation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Republic of Türkiye in pursuit of regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.”

Ten years ago on July 15, 2016, a faction in the Turkish military attempted to overthrow the government of President Erdoğan in a failed coup attempt.
