KRG Interior Minister Visits Baghdad to Boost Security Coordination

On Monday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Interior Reber Ahmed led a high-level delegation to Baghdad to discuss strengthening security coordination between Erbil and Baghdad.



“Today in Baghdad, led the KRG’s high-level security delegation in a constructive meeting with Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Aboudi, and his team. We discussed strengthening federal-regional security coordination, advancing the implementation of the Iraq–Iran security agreement, and reinforcing shared commitment to regional stability and security,” Minister of Interior Ahmed posted on X.


Furthermore, he met with the newly appointed Head of the Iraqi National Security Service, Bassem al-Badri, and discussed ways to strengthen security coordination, and joint cooperation between KRG and federal authorities to ensure regional stability and uphold the rule of law.


Minister of Interior Ahmed also met with the Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, General Abdul-Amir Yarallah, and discussed strengthening security coordination and joint field cooperation between federal forces and the Peshmerga, as well as unifying efforts to counter security challenges and ensure stability across the country.


In March 2023, Iran and Iraq signed a security agreement to tighten border security and disarm Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. The KRG has also committed to the agreement and has hosted several security talks with Iraq in the past to strengthen security.
