On Sunday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Theoharis and discussed the importance of further strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Greece.
During the meeting they focused on expanding ties in the sectors like trade, tourism, culture, archaeology, and climate change.
The discussions also covered the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region. Both officials exchanged views on regional affairs and underscored the need to preserve security, stability, and peace throughout the region.
Greece opened its Consulate General in Erbil in 2018 and has supported the Kurdistan Region in several ways, particularly during the fight against ISIS, donating weapons to the Peshmerga and sending humanitarian aid.
Greek businesses are active in the Kurdistan Region across sectors such as construction, food, and energy. The Greek community in the Kurdistan Region is relatively small, numbering between 30 and 50 people.
