Lasting Solutions Must be Built on Dialogue: PM Masrour Barzani

On Sunday, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani continued his second day of meetings with senior Iraqi leaders and underlined that issues between Erbil and Baghdad should be solved by dialogue.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Barzani underlined that, during his meetings in Baghdad, he “reaffirmed that lasting solutions must be built on dialogue, genuine partnership, and respect for the Constitution.”


On the first day of his visit, Prime Minister Barzani met with the Prime Minister of Iraq, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, and a number of senior officials and political leaders.

On Saturday evening, Prime Minister Barzani met with Secretary-General of the Badr Organization, Hadi al-Amiri, and with Head of the Popular Mobilization Forces Faleh al-Fayyadh, during which they discussed the need to respect the Constitution and the federal system in a way that preserves security and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.


On the second day of his visit, Prime Minister Barzani met with Former Iraqi Prime Minister and head of Reconstruction and Development Coalition Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji, former Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, head of the State of Law Coalition Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the al-Siyada Coalition Khamis al-Khanjar, former Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani, and the head of the Islamic Supreme Council Sheikh Humam Hamoudi.


The meetings focused on the course of the political process in Iraq and the latest regional developments, as well as the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination among the various political forces and parties in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.


Furthermore, views were also exchanged on the importance of supporting the federal government in resolving outstanding issues with the Kurdistan Region, improving public services provided to citizens, and advancing economic development across the country.


On Saturday, Prime Minister Barzani started his first official visit to Baghdad after the new Iraqi government was formed this month by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi. The goal of the visit is to solve outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil and offer support to Baghdad to help with electricity and energy issues.
