On Saturday, Kurdish mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Namo Fazil defeated Jake Babian in a welterweight bout with an anaconda choke by submission in Los Angeles in Round 2 at the Netflix MMA event.
“I had a shit week, but at the end of the day we did it,” Fazil told Netflix after his win.Fazil wore the Kurdish flag before taking the stage, and raised it after his victory.

“Namo put on a show. He’s an incredible fighter, I think a superstar. You know, very rarely do you see someone who has that X factor, and he really has that,” influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul said about Fazil. “I think he has his fans behind him in Kurdistan. So I think we have a potential superstar on our hands.”
Known as “Grandson of Saladin”, Fazil has improved his score to (10-1-0) with the latest win and is ranked 31st in Pro Men’s Welterweight in the Middle East.
On Sunday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated Fazil on his win.
“I wish him continued success and even greater achievements in the future,” President Nechirvan Barzani posted on X.
