KRG Enhances Coordination on Environmental Protection

On Monday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Interior Reber Ahmed chaired a meeting with KRG Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Begard Talabani to discuss policies to protect Kurdistan’s environment.

In a post on X, Minister Ahmed said the meeting aimed to advance the vision of KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to promote environmental protection and encourage public awareness.

“I was pleased to host Minister Begard Talabani and her team to discuss ways to strengthen the protection of Kurdistan’s environment, establishing a unified strategy to prevent encroachments on forests, water resources, and agricultural lands.”

On May 4, Minister Ahmed chaired a high-level meeting with the relevant authorities to strengthen environmental protection across the Kurdistan Region, he posted on X.

During the meeting, he also reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to accelerating the “transition toward a plastic-free Kurdistan as part of building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.”

Last month, the KRG Ministry of Interior announced that they would begin to penalize littering.

“Protecting Kurdistan’s environment and natural beauty is a public asset belonging to the country and its people. Its protection is a national, moral, and human duty. No one has the right to pollute it or escape accountability,” the Ministry of Interior said.
