Kurdish Leaders Congratulate Iraqi Prime Minister Nominee

On Monday, Kurdish leaders congratulated Iraqi businessman Ali al-Zaidi on his nomination as prime minister by Iraq’s ruling Shi’a Coordination Framework.


Iraqi President Nizar Amidi named al-Zaidi as prime minister-designate and tasked him with forming a government.



“We congratulated Mr. Ali al-Zaidi during a phone call on his assignment as Prime Minister of the federal government, expressing our wishes for his success in forming the new federal cabinet,” Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani posted on X. 


“We also expressed our support for resolving all outstanding disputes based on the constitution, and our hope that Iraq will enter a new era marked by security, stability, and peace.”


Aziz Ahmad, deputy chief of staff to KRG Prime Minister Barzani, posted on X that both leaders discussed the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad and have met in the past.


Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also congratulated al-Zaidi on his nomination. 


“Wishing him success in his duties to form an inclusive national government that meets the aspirations of our people across Iraq and works to strengthen stability and reconstruction.


“We affirm our support for him and our willingness to work together toward a better future for all Iraqis.”
