Defenseless Citizens of Kurdistan Being Targeted: President Barzani

In a statement on Tuesday, President Masoud Barzani said that another unlawful attack against the Kurdistan Region occurred last night, leading to the death of two innocent citizens in the village of Zargazawi in Erbil Governorate.

“This act is extremely criminal and unjust, as the defenseless citizens of Kurdistan are being targeted in this manner without any justification, driven by blind hatred,” he said.

“The martyrdom of these two innocent citizens has filled all our hearts with pain and sorrow.

“Targeting civilian citizens in the Kurdistan Region and causing their martyrdom carries not a shred of nobility or honor. The will of the people of Kurdistan will always remain stronger than all attacks, aggressions, and drones, and it will never be broken. The people of Kurdistan rely on God and on the justice of their cause,” he concluded.

On Tuesday afternoon, President Barzani attended the couple's funeral.

The Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Directorate said that, at 12:15 am on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, an explosive-laden drone launched from Iran fell on a civilian home in Zargazawi village, in the Darashakran subdistrict of Erbil Governorate, killing two civilians.

The victims – Musa Anwar Rasool, a Peshmerga, and Mujda Asaad Hassan, his wife – leave behind two children, Pari and Dilin. Musa’s brother, Abdullah Anwar, was also a Peshmerga and was killed in 2018 during the war against ISIS.
