On Sunday, the foreign ministries of Syria and the UAE strongly condemned the drone attack targeting Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani’s residence in Duhok on Saturday.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs “affirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and his family, as well as with the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government under these circumstances.
“It also expressed its strong denunciation of such criminal acts, reiterating its firm rejection of all forms of violence aimed at undermining security and stability.”
On Saturday evening, President Nechirvan Barzani received a phone call from UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said.
During the call, President al-Nahyan offered a strong condemnation of the drone attack targeting President Nechirvan Barzani’s residence in Duhok earlier that day, reaffirming the UAE’s unwavering support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in preserving their security and stability.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his gratitude for the call and for the UAE’s ongoing backing of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Sunday “[condemned] in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks targeting the residence of the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, which were carried out by outlaw groups.
“The Ministry considers these illegal acts of aggression a threat to security and stability in Iraq and the region, and a violation of the principles of international law.
“The Syrian Arab Republic affirms its unwavering position in support of the stability and territorial integrity of Iraq, and rejects all forms of armed intervention in its internal affairs.”
