On Thursday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a joint message of condolences and solidarity from the EU Liaison Office and the consulates general of EU member states in the Kurdistan Region.

In their joint message, they expressed their profound condolences regarding the missile attack that targeted the Soran district in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, resulting in the death of six Peshmerga members and the injury of 30 others.

“We learned with great concern about the missile attack that took place this Tuesday in the Soran region, following several weeks of relentless attacks affecting the Kurdistan Region of Iraq,” the letter reads. 

The EU Liaison Office and the representatives of the consulates general of EU member states extended their deepest sympathies to President Nechirvan Barzani and the families of the six fallen Peshmerga heroes, and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences for the six Peshmerga members who lost their lives, as well as for the many that were injured in this deplorable moment. Our thoughts and support go with their families and their loved ones. “

The message, which was also sent to Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, voiced grave concern over the repeated attacks on the Kurdistan Region in recent weeks.

The EU representatives reaffirmed their solidarity, as well as that of their countries, with the Kurdistan Region, highlighting their commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region.
