U.S. Envoy, Jordan Offer Condolences to Kurdistan Region

On Wednesday, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack and Jordanian King Abdullah II offered condolences to the Kurdistan Region after Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Tuesday killed six Peshmerga and injured 30.


“I had a good call with Tom Barrack and thanked him for his thoughtful call and condolences. Our people stand united in mourning the martyred Peshmerga,” Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani posted on X.


“We value the KRG-U.S. partnership at this critical moment and look forward to continuing our dialogue.”


On Tuesday, U.S. Department of State Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott condemned the attack on Erbil, Kurdistan24 reported.


“We offer condolences to the families of the Peshmerga killed and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” he said.


On Wednesday, King Abdullah II of Jordan sent a condolence letter to KRG Prime Minister Barzani.


“On my own behalf and on behalf of the people and government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to you for this tragedy,” the letter said.“I pray to Almighty God to grant them mercy and admit them to paradise, and to bestow patience and comfort upon their families and the brotherly people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery.”


Early on the morning of March 24, 2026, the headquarters of the 7th Infantry Division of the 1st Sector and a force from the 5th Infantry Division of the Peshmerga forces in the Soran border area were targeted in two separate attacks by Iranian ballistic missiles, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs reported.


 

“As a result, six heroic Peshmerga were martyred and 30 other Peshmerga were wounded.”
